We are seeking an experienced School Business Manager to join a specialist school in Northampton, supporting the effective day-to-day management and strategic development of the school.

School Business Manager | Northampton (NN2) | £34,000–£42,000 | 8:30am–4:30pm | Fixed Term to July

The school caters to students aged 6–19 with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, complex needs and other associated needs.

This is an exciting opportunity for a School Business Manager to play a key role in ensuring the school operates efficiently, safely and effectively. You will work closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team across the school's financial, administrative and operational functions.

About the Role

As a School Business Manager, you will oversee financial management, administration, procurement, premises and operational systems.

This is a largely site-based role, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm, with flexibility to work 1–2 days remotely where appropriate.

You will be responsible for ensuring resources are managed effectively, supporting compliance and contributing to the continued development of the school.

Key Responsibilities

As a School Business Manager, you will:

• Oversee budgets, financial management, expenditure and reporting.
• Support the Headteacher and senior leadership team with financial planning.
• Manage procurement, contracts, suppliers and purchasing.
• Oversee school administration and operational systems.
• Support premises, facilities, health and safety and site-related matters.
• Support HR processes, including recruitment, contracts and payroll where appropriate.
• Ensure policies, procedures and statutory requirements are maintained.
• Maintain accurate financial and administrative records.
• Assist with audits, inspections and reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and value for money.
• Contribute to strategic planning and the wider development of the school.

About You

The successful School Business Manager will have:

• Previous experience as a School Business Manager, Business Manager, Finance Manager or similar.
• Strong financial management and budgetary skills.
• Experience managing administrative and operational functions.
• Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
• A good understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR and compliance.
• Education or specialist SEND experience is desirable.
• A professional, proactive and collaborative approach.
